It has become a good tradition for the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty (People’s Council) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to participate in the annual international economic forums “Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum” in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation.
The current, fourteenth meeting of representatives of the Islamic world on the Kazan meridian was no exception. Turkmenistan’s participation in this forum organically fit in the broad agenda of the dialogue with both the Russian Federation and the Islamic world, development of long-term partnerships in politics, economics, trade, culture and humanitarian spheres. Cooperation with the regions of the Russian Federation is an important aspect of this process, where the Republic of Tatarstan occupies a special place both due to its powerful resource and industrial potential and the historical ties between the two brotherly peoples.
The relations between Turkmenistan and Tatarstan have recently reached a period of their maximum productivity. Cooperation between the Turkmen business entities and enterprises and companies of Tatarstan is developing intensively. Encouraging prospects are opening in the agricultural, food and processing industries. Relations in the educational, scientific, cultural and humanitarian spheres are consistently expanding.
The imposing composition of the Turkmen delegation at the Kazan forum was evidence of Turkmenistan’s ever-growing authority in the Islamic world and recognition of its constructive and creative role in the activities of the Islamic Cooperation Organization. This is confirmed by the high appreciation of Turkmenistan’s initiatives within the framework of the specialized structures, such as the Islamic Development Bank and the Islamic Food Security Organization. Turkmenistan shared its considerable and positive experience of such engagements with its partners, including at the discussion platforms of “KazanForum”.
Kazan simultaneously hosted the annual international exhibition of the halal industry “Russia Halal Expo 2025”. The national exposition of Turkmenistan was presented quite thoroughly, which aroused genuine interest among participants and visitors. The Turkmen stands displayed a wide range of goods representing various sectors of the national industry and agriculture.
According to experts, Turkmen products are of the highest quality and international standards. It is natural that in recent years there has been a stable growth in Turkmen exports to Russia. It is obvious that the success of the Turkmen exposition in Kazan has opened up prospects for expanding cooperation and establishing business and partnership ties with other countries.
The visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Kazan became a significant event in developing and deepening of the Turkmen-Russian interstate cooperation that helped to significantly strengthen the country’s relations with the states of the Islamic world, created new conditions and prerequisites for respectful, constructive and mutually beneficial partnership. At the plenary session of the forum, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov presented Turkmenistan’s vision on the use of high technologies, innovations and artificial intelligence. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s speech aroused keen interest among the participants.
The plenary session was followed by an official meeting between Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Head of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, during which the parties discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation, stressing the importance of the agreements already reached and mutual interest in their practical implementation.
The special atmosphere of the meeting was underlined by its warm and informal nature. The leadership of Tatarstan hosted a reception in honour of the Turkmen guest, which was also attended by State Counsellor of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev. During the conversation between the three statesmen, confidence was expressed in the further deepening of Turkmen-Tatarstan co-operation in various spheres.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s working visit to Kazan became an important milestone in the development of the Turkmen-Russian cooperation. Participation in “KazanForum” made it possible to confirm Turkmenistan’s unwavering commitment to deepening mutually beneficial partnerships with both the Russian Federation and the countries of the Islamic world.

Noting the importance of the XVI International Economic Forum «Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum 2025», Vladimir Putin expressed sincere gratitude to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for participating in this high-level meeting and, taking the opportunity, conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
During the conversation, the interlocutors noted with satisfaction that relations between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation are developing dynamically in various areas, guided by the principles of friendship, trust and mutual understanding. They emphasized the importance of continuing the active interstate dialogue. Bilateral political and diplomatic relations are also actively developing. The two countries effectively cooperate within the framework of regional and international organizations. In this regard, the sides expressed confidence that the Turkmen-Russian relations will consistently develop and strengthen for the benefit of the peoples of both countries.
