Chairman of Khalk Maslakhaty, the upper house of the Parliament of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov paid a working visit to the Republic of Tatarstan, where he attended the XIII International Economic Summit “Russia – the Islamic World: KazanSummit 2022” as a guest of honor.
The ex-president of Turkmenistan proceeded from the airport of Kazan to the venue of the summit – the international exhibition center “Kazan EXPO” – where Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Maxim Reshetnikov. During the meeting, the sides noted good growth rates in trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Russia in recent years and successful development of bilateral partnership in the oil and gas sector, automotive industry, shipbuilding, trade and other areas. The sides also discussed prospects of Russian partners’ joining promising projects implemented in various sectors of the economy of Turkmenistan.
Later, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the plenary session of the XIII International Economic Summit “Russia – Islamic World: KazanSummit 2022”. In his speech, he noted that the Republic of Tatarstan occupies a special place in the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation.
“Our relations have the most positive impact on the course and nature of bilateral interaction, enriching and giving extra strength and stability to the entire interstate dialogue, meeting mutual long-term interests,” the speaker of the upper house of the Turkmen parliament emphasized.
He commended big companies of Tatarstan such as KAMAZ, Tatneft, KER-Holding, Kazan Helicopter Plant, Ak-Bars Shipbuilding Corporation and others for their activities in Turkmenistan. At the same time, special emphasis was placed on cooperation in the field of high technologies and science-intensive industries.
“This is now a priority area for Turkmenistan, and we would like to increase our cooperation with Tatarstan partners, taking into account the available powerful scientific and scientific-production potential,” the Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty said.
According to him, cooperation in the area of education and training of highly qualified personnel is closely connected with this direction.
“For many years, Turkmenistan has been sending its youth to the Republic of Tatarstan, where about 5,000 Turkmen students study at the leading higher education establishments. Our country intends to annually increase the number of students studying at the higher education establishments of Tatarstan, gradually expand the range of specialization, focusing on preparation of specialists with knowledge of modern advanced technologies,” the ex-president of Turkmenistan said.
In the afternoon, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov at the building of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan. It was announced at the meeting that by the decree of the head of the Republic of Tatarstan the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was awarded the Order “For Services to Tatarstan”. As was noted at the award ceremony, the speaker of the upper house of the Turkmen parliament was awarded a high state decoration for outstanding achievements in strengthening friendship and cooperation between the Republic of Tatarstan and Turkmenistan.
