HOLIDAY SPIRIT
This year's Independence Day celebration under the theme of the year "Turkmenistan - Homeland of Neutrality" was of special significance for the country. It was due to the fact that literally on the eve of the day of celebration the Khalk Maslakhaty adopted the Constitutional Law "On Changes and Amendments to the Constitution of Turkmenistan", following nationwide discussion. According to this law, a new bicameral parliament will be established in the country. Since this constitutional reform is very important in the process of development and strengthening of democratic principles in the life of society, providing the legal basis for the further development of the independent country and increasing the efficiency of work of public authorities, this event can be rightfully called a historical one for Turkmenistan.
The celebration of the 29th anniversary of Turkmenistan's state sovereignty was marked with new impressive social and economic successes. The foreign policy strategy of Turkmenistan achieved tangible results, guided by the principles of positive neutrality, peacefulness and good-neighborliness, focusing on the further strengthening of friendly relations with other states, establishing close interaction with large international organizations, primarily with the United Nations.
According to the good tradition, the major festivities marking Independence Day took place on the country's main square in Ashgabat. The day began with a military parade that demonstrated the defensive power of the country, professionalism and training of Turkmen soldiers who safeguard the achievements of sovereign Turkmenistan and prosperous life of the people. The parade of modern military equipment adopted by all law enforcement agencies in recent years demonstrated the great defense capacity of the Turkmen state and its readiness to counter modern challenges and threats.
In general, all the powerful ultra-modern ground and air equipment presented at the parade provided another clear evidence of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's unremitting attention to strengthening the defense power of independent neutral Turkmenistan and modernizing the national armed forces and further improving the services of the military and law enforcement bodies.
The festive parade culminated in the march of military personnel of the equestrian squads that were established in the military units of the national armed forces and the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the initiative and with the support of the President of Turkmenistan. The festive military parade concluded with the performance by the combined military orchestra of the armed forces of Turkmenistan that presented its musical gift on the occasion of the main holiday of the country.
The military parade was followed by the demonstration of successes and achievements of the national economy and social sector. Platforms on vehicles with colorful themed decorations served as visual illustrations. The celebration finished with the mass dance of Kushtdepdi, during which white doves flew into the sky along with balloons, symbolizing peace and happiness, good wishes and best hopes.
A festive concert in honor of Independence Day of Turkmenistan was held at the Ashgabat Song and Music Center. The performers included stage stars, masters and young pop soloists, famous folk and dance ensembles, the State Choir, children's art groups. The festive concert program ended with colorful fireworks.
The festivities continued at the International Akhal-Teke Equestrian Complex attended by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Horse racing is one of the favorite holiday traditions of the Turkmen people. It continues to this day thanks to the continuity of generations and caring attitude of descendants to the heritage of their ancestors. Nowadays, this exciting show is completely different from what it was in the old days. The magnificent equestrian complexes erected in all regions of the country make it possible to hold horse racing at the highest professional level. In addition to the sports component, horse racing always turns into a much greater event in terms of content, an impressive spectacle spiced with the flavor of national culture.
This time, Akhal-Teke horses demonstrated their speed and agility at various distances in 7 races. In each race, jockeys contested 6 prizes worth USD 15 thousand established by various branches of the national economy and the main prize worth USD 30 thousand from the President of Turkmenistan. The total prize fund totaled USD 120 thousand contested by 84 jockeys.
The horse racing in celebration of Independence Day went without a pause, providing the audience with many new experiences. It concluded with a prize awarding ceremony, including the main prize on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
